Nurture Network - Learning Everywhere with Dr Penny Hay
Activity Description
This session is for teachers who want to expand their understanding of the benefits of arts education and outside learning in their school and for artists who work with young people, communities and schools.
Guest Speaker Dr Penny Hay will share her research in creative pedagogy including projects that help us to rethink our approach to education by prioritising creativity and learning in the environment through creative place-making.
Penny will discuss the approach in Reggio Emilia that inspired her work in creative activism, a creative approach that places children at the heart of their own learning and curiosity in projects including Forest of Imagination and School without Walls.

Dr. Penny Hay is an artist, educator and researcher, Reader in Creative Teaching and Learning, Senior Lecturer in Arts Education, School of Education; Research Fellow, Centre for Cultural and Creative Industries; Bath Spa University and Director of Research, House of Imagination. Signature projects include School Without Walls and Forest of Imagination. Penny’s doctoral research focused on children’s learning identity as artists. Penny is a visiting Lecturer at Plymouth College of Art, National Teaching Fellow and Fellow of the Chartered College of Teaching, with awards from Action for Children’s Arts and Creative Bath.
